In Uruguay annual ryegrass is the largest area planted of a forage specie and it is one of the most used winter pastures for grazing as well as bridge pasture during the critical winter months for soil conservation purposes.
This is a fodder plant. It is cultivated for hay, silage, green forage and as a pastoral culture. Hay contains 16.4% protein and 52 fodder units (in 100 kg). It is rich in carbohydrates, proteins, amino acids (lysine, leucine etc.), carotene, minerals, tannins, pro-vitamin A, B-vitamins, and riboflavin.
Red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) is an alternative of great potential productivity for dairy systems, particularly in heavily compacted soils. Plant density (PD) during pasture establishment can be related to forage production and used as an early indicator of pasture quality
It's a summer legume that presents high forage yield potential, good persistence and great tolerance to drought and frost, associated with the accumulated reserves in its crown.
